Joseph Jedlowski is the President of Milestone Retirement Communities and has ample experience in executive positions. He has owned multiple businesses and knows how to hack productivity to achieve career dreams.
I reached out to Joseph Jedlowski and asked if he could share some of his best productivity hacks for us all to try, and he agreed. So, let’s take a look at these tried and true methods shared with us by Joseph Jedlowski.
Make Detailed Goals and Roadmaps
One of the major points Joseph Jedlowski drove home was that we should all have very detailed goals. Both long-term and short-term goals are necessary, and we should have a plan to achieve them all.
Short-term goals should, of course, lead to your long-term goals. They should be realistic, achievable, and specific. Long-term goals can be a bit broader, at least until you come closer to achieving them.
Another extremely useful tip for these roadmaps is that you should revisit them periodically. Whether it’s once every few months or once a year. Take a look at your goals and make sure that they’re still what you want and that your road map will still work. Don’t be afraid to change things or even start from scratch!
Utilize Lists for EVERYTHING
Joseph Jedlowski said he’d make a new list of what he needed to get done every week. He’ll list out the days and what he’ll tackle every day.
Sometimes he makes a full week’s list and smaller 3-day lists to help himself stay on schedule and manage his time better. Just like with your goals, do not be afraid to change things up. If you find that you’d rather bump Friday’s work to Wednesday halfway through the week, then do it!
The Pomodoro Method
This method involves working for 25 minutes at a time while taking short breaks in between. This is one of the proven methods to boost productivity. It helps keep the mind fresh and prevents burnout during a work session. The exact method goes as follows:
- Work for 25 minutes
- Take a 5-minute break
- Repeat steps 1 and 2 until you have worked for four 25 minute sessions
- Take an extended 30-minute break
The exact times can be played with. Some people would rather work 20 minutes or take an hour-long break. The numbers aren’t what is important with this method; it is the productivity boost from having the short breaks.
Stop Multi-tasking Entirely
When people multitask, it may seem like they’re getting a lot done in a very short amount of time. But truth be told, it’s most likely counterproductive. By focusing on a single task at a time, you’re giving yourself two advantages.
First of all, your work will be of better quality with just one focus. Secondly, you’ll be able to get things done much faster with just one task. Overall, things will get done in the same amount of time, except by multitasking, you’ll only give half of your effort to each task.
Have your Own Dedicated Work Space
A dedicated workspace makes all the difference, both organizationally and mentally. Being in a dedicated space tells your brain, “it’s time to work!” Not everyone can afford to dedicate an entire room to a workspace, but just creating a new work account on your computer or having a dedicated work desk will make all the difference.
